Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the estimated total value of prescriptions processed per month by the prescription pricing division of the Common Services Agency; what is the average lengh of training given to new employees taken on by the division; and how many employees were taken on by the division in each of the past five years, and how many left.

Mr. John MacKay

In 1982–83 the monthly average total value of prescription items processed by prescription pricing division was £12.7 million. Each new employee is given six months basic training and for a further six months output is checked and guidance given as required. The other information requested is as follows:
