§ Dr. Owenasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the latest figures for the proportions of total health and personal social securities budget (current 201W and capital) that is devoted to (a) services mainly for children, (b) services for the mentally handicapped, (c) services for the mentally ill, (d) services mainly for the elderly and physically handicapped, (e) primary care, (f) general and acute hospital and maternity services and (g) other services; and what are the planned figures for (i) next year and (ii) the furthest year for which the Government have plans.
§ Mr. John PattenApart from certain centrally financed services, funds are not allocated centrally to particular programmes. Our estimates of health and local authorities' spending are valid for monitoring broad trends, but not for making close comparisons between individual programmes. The percentage breakdown of gross health and personal social services expenditure (current and capital) on the main programmes is set out for 1981–82, the latest year for which the information is available in its entirety:
