HC Deb 17 January 1984 vol 52 c202W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much accidents involving motor cyclists cost the National Health Service.

Mr. John Patten

Motor cyclists are not identified separately in the figures available centrally on treatment given to road accident casualties. The total cost to the National Health Service of the treatment given to all road accident casualties in 1982 is estimated at £110 million. For the same year, the Department of Transport's published figures show that about 22 per cent. of those killed or injured on the roads were riding on motor cycles.
