HC Deb 17 January 1984 vol 52 cc196-7W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what provision will be made for the promotion of local legislation for London authorities if the Greater London council is abolished and they may no longer promote through the General Powers Bill.

Mr. Waldegrave

My right hon. Friend will consider whether special arrangements will be needed for local legislation after the abolition of the GLC, in the light of the consultations which are now in progress.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment on what existing joint boards, committees of trustees and other public bodies the Greater London council is represented; and what specific proposals will be brought forward by his Department to ensure that the public is adequately represented on these bodies if the Greater London council is abolished.

Mr. Waldegrave

Consideration will be given to the need to replace any statutory requirement for the GLC to be represented on public bodies, in the light of the consultations which are now in progress.

Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list those London local authorities which will have to bear the cost of servicing the Greater London council's existing £100 million worth of fixed low interest mortgages should the Greater London council be abolished.
