HC Deb 16 January 1984 vol 52 cc125-6W
Mr. Redmond

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people applied for mobility and invalidity allowances and what percentage received the two allowances in South Yorkshire in 1981–82; and what are the current available figures for 1982–83.

Mr. Newton

At the end of May 1981 there were 192,200 people in receipt of mobility allowance and 519,600 in receipt of invalidity allowance, an addition to invalidity pension related to the age at which incapacity for work began, in Great Britain. At the end of May 1982 the comparable figures were 225,700 and 575,400 respectively. Separate information is not available for South Yorkshire.
