asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the approximate number of horses and ponies killed by licensed abattoirs in 1979, 1980, 1981,1982 and to the nearest available date in 1983.

My Department does not collect these statistics.

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many abattoirs throughout the United Kingdom are licensed to kill horses and ponies.

At present there are 17 slaughterhouses in the United Kingdom which are licensed to slaughter horses.
