§ Mr. Foulkesasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what complaints he has received regarding the housing laws of Guernsey and Jersey in the current Parliament; what action he has taken on them; and what consideration he has given to discussing with the island authorities changes in their housing laws which do not discriminate against United Kingdom citizens.
§ Mr. MellorThe housing laws of Jersey and Guernsey are statutes which are domestic to the islands and there are no proposals to discuss them with the authorities of the islands. Correspondence has been received concerning one English couple who were refused a housing licence in Guernsey, an issue which is the subject of an application to the European Court of Human Rights. In reply to the correspondence, the constitutional position has been explained. There have been no complaints regarding the housing laws in Jersey.
