HC Deb 16 January 1984 vol 52 c78W
Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how per capita spending in the current year on education compares with 1978–79.

Sir Keith Joseph

For the current financial year 1983–84, on the basis of provisional figures, per capita recurrent public expenditure on education in England is likely to be about £257 in cash compared with about £148 cash in the financial year 1978–79. In cost terms, the figure of £148 compares with nearly £151 in 1983–84, and this represents an increase of 2 per cent, since 1978–79.
