HC Deb 16 January 1984 vol 52 c85W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list all projects currently in receipt of European social fund money in each London borough.

Mr. Gummer

Britain benefits considerably from the European social fund, but the bulk of allocations is in respect of national employment and training schemes and cannot be broken down on a regional basis.

A list of schemes in greater London sponsored by local authorities and voluntary and private organisations was given in answer to the hon. Member for Peckham (Ms. Harman)—[23 November, Vol. 49, c. 135–136]. Since then the European Commission has announced a further, final, set of decisions on 1983 allocations. This included assistance for the following schemes in greater London: Vocational training in a variety of new technical skills in demand in London, including some elements of remedial and language training where essential for an understanding of the courses, for 34 unemployed people. Tower Hamlets advanced technology training. Training of 27 first-job seekers under 25 years old to avoid shortage of people with new skills. Babcock Power Ltd.

It is not possible to provide a breakdown of schemes by individual boroughs. However, where a London borough is the sponsoring authority, this is shown.
