HC Deb 29 February 1984 vol 55 cc219-20W
Mr. Wrigglesworth

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will have discusions with the China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation or its West German agents, with a view to disposing of British nuclear waste in China.

Mr. Giles Shaw

My Department is investigating the Chinese proposal. However, we understand that the China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation has so far offered to accept spent fuel only; that is fuel discharged from the reactor but not yet reprocessed, rather than nuclear waste. The United Kingdom has adequate storage facilities for spent fuel arisings.
