HC Deb 29 February 1984 vol 55 c219W
Mr. Woodcock

asked the Secretary of State for Energy following the publication of the Official Reports criticising the management of British Nuclear Fuels' operations at Sellafield, if he is satisfied with safety arrangements at the British Nuclear Fuels' enrichment facilities at Capenhurst in Cheshire.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I am advised by the chairman of the Health and Safety Commission that nuclear safety at British Nuclear Fuels' Capenhurst site, which is a licensed nuclear site under the Nuclear Installations Act 1965, is controlled by means of conditions attached to the licence. Inspection for compliance with the licence conditions is carried out by Her Majesty's Nuclear Installations Inspectorate, whose inspectors visit the site frequently. I am satisfied with these arrangements.

I understand that the inspectorate does not consider that there are any specific implications for the Capenhurst site arising from the Official Reports on the recent Sellafield incident.
