HC Deb 28 February 1984 vol 55 c133W
Mr. Iain Mills

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how many cars failed Department of Transport tests due to faulty tyres in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983, respectively.

Mrs. Chalker

The number of cars — including three-wheelers—which failed their annual MOT test due to defective tyres in the years in question are as follows:

Numbers
1980 739,560
1981 754,950
1982 711,300
1983 796,750

These figures are based on a 2 per cent. sample of the results of all MOT tests.
