§ Mr. John Carlisleasked the Secretary of State for Transport what instructions have been issued to local tax offices to withhold the issue of certain blocks of car registration numbers from motor retailers.
§ Mrs. ChalkerVehicle registration marks are issued at the discretion of my right hon. Friend. It has never been the practice to issue all number and letter combinations. Marks which might cause embarrassment or offence are withheld as are attractive marks which could give rise to competing claims. Marks withheld in the current 'A' prefix format include all those beginning with A1–A20 and A55.
