Mr. Alexander

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much was paid to service men who have been discharged from the armed forces as a result of terrorist injuries suffered whilst serving in Northern Ireland; and how many men and women have received such compensation in each year from 1977 to 1983.

The following table shows the amount of compensation paid under the Criminal Injuries (Compensation) (Northern Ireland) Order 1977 and earlier legislation to service men who were discharged from the armed forces as a result of terrorist injuries suffered while serving in Northern Ireland. Payments to members of the Ulster Defence Regiment, and pensions and gratuities paid by the Ministry of Defence or the Department of Health and Social Security are not included.
