HC Deb 28 February 1984 vol 55 c142W
Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what were the total number of hours of overtime worked by the Royal Ulster Constabulary in the Royal Ulster Constabulary divisions governing the constituency of Londonderry, East during each of the last three months for which figures are available; and what were the figures for the corresponding period one year ago and two years ago, respectively.

Mr. Scott

Overtime records are compiled and maintained by the RUC to facilitate the more effective and efficient deployment of police manpower. They are essentially for internal management purposes. For the force as a whole, the following are the total manhours of overtime worked during the past four financial years:

hours
1980–81 5,950,000
1981–82 8,000,000
1982–83 6,720,000
1983–84* 4,615,000
* To 31 December
