HC Deb 28 February 1984 vol 55 c149W
Mr. Bowen Wells

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what local efforts have been made in Liverpool and Merseyside to support Government programmes run by his Department.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

Local authorities, Government agencies, private companies and voluntary community groups have all in different ways co-operated with my Department in worthwhile and innovative schemes to assist Merseyside. Schemes include upgrading industrial estates, bringing unused land into productive use, improving housing conditions and widening housing choice through the promotion of low cost home ownership schemes. Sport and leisure facilities are being improved and in co-operation with the Manpower Services Commission better training is being given to young people. Financial support and advice is given to small businesses.
