§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will publish in the Official Report a table showing for the past 12 months the increase in employment in the United Kingdom and the United States of America, respectively, in absolute terms and as a proportion of the labour force in manufacturing.
§ Mr. Alan ClarkIn the 12 months to September 1983, total employment in Great Britain (all industries and services, covering employees in employment, the self-employed and armed forces) fell by 37,000. This figure is 0.7 per cent. of the number of employees in employment in manufacturing at September 1983. The corresponding figures for the United States of America were an increase of 2.515 million and 13.1 per cent. respectively.
