Mr. Hunter askedthe Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to the answer of 30 January, Official Report, c. 27, what he means by "work" whether paid or unpaid; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Alan ClarkThe use of the word "work" in this context means any employment whether paid or unpaid, as defined in Schedule 20 of the Social Security Act 1975. Providing a service, with or without remuneration, as, for example, in doing voluntary work, could have a bearing on availability for employment but, as provided in regulation 12 of the Social Security (Unemployment, Sickness and Invalidity Benefit) Regulation 1983, entitlement to benefit will not be affected if a claimant can make himself available within 24 hours.
