Mr. Nicholson

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many claims for supplementary benefit that were refused were allowed on appeal in (a) the Newry office district area and (b) the Armagh office area.

During 1983 a total of 90 claims for supplemenatry benefit refused by the Newry social security office were allowed on appeal, 40 by benefit officers and 50 by supplementary benefit appeal tribunals. In the same period 28 claims refused by the Armagh social security office were allowed on appeal, 13 by benefit officers and 15 by tribunals.
