§ Mr. Hunterasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will arrange for information to be obtained by his Department from the several governing bodies for sporting activities on the cost of ensuring the attendance of police at sporting functions; and if he will make that information public by means of regular reports to Parliament.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneNo. Section 15 of the Police Act 1964, for which responsibility lies with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department, enables chief officers of police authorities to provide, on request, special services at any premises or locality in their particular areas subject to the payment of any charges which may be determined by the police authority concerned. Sporting events come within the scope of this provision but the amounts payable are matters entirely for the individual Police Authorities and the organisers of individual events.
