The industries are defined in terms of the Orders or minimum list headings (MLH) of the 1968 standard industrial classification. The published figures for April 1983 based on the 1980 standard industrial classification have been adjusted as far as possible to correspond to the earlier classification.
Changes in relative average earnings may reflect changes in the composition in terms of occupations, grades, etc., 14W in these industries and do not necessarily reflect corresponding changes in relative rates of pay for comparable jobs.
