§ Mr. Penhaligonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the housing authorities in the United Kingdom, indicating how many council properties they owned in June 1979, how many have been purchased or constructed since that time, the numbers sold under the right-to-buy legislation and by what percentage the council-owned housing stock has been reduced in the period under question.
§ Sir George YoungEnglish local authorities' housing investment programme returns include the numbers of dwellings within their own areas which they own. The numbers reported for 1 April 1979 and 1 April 1983 are given below, with the percentage increase or decrease in each case.
Numbers of right to buy and other sales of council dwellings reported by the authorities up to March 1983 were placed in the Library on 22 July 1983. The other information requested cannot be collated except at disproportionate cost, but reported housebuilding completions (cumulative within calendar years) appear in issues of "Local Housing Statistics", copies of which are also available in the Library.
32WFor information for other parts of the United Kingdom, I refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
