My Department operates the home accident surveillance system, which collects information—from a rolling sample of 20 hospitals — about accidents occurring in and around the home. This information suggests that annual figures for home accidents involving hospital treatment in England and Wales are of the following order:
Figures (a) glass panes 2,000 (b) window panes 10,000 (c) doors (to rooms) involving glass 15,000 The information does not distinguish between clear and opaque glass; nor are separate figures available for Essex.
