asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he has any plans to remove special development status from all or part of the metropolitan district of north Tyneside.

Mr. Trippier

The White Paper on "Regional Industrial Development" (Cmnd. 9111) announced the Government's intention to revise the assisted area map. It invited submissions, to be made by 31 May, not only on the coverage of the map but also on the criteria on which decisions to designate assisted areas should be based. Until the period of consultation is complete, the Government are not in a position to plan the future map.
