HC Deb 23 February 1984 vol 54 c603W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if the Government have any plans to allow British Telecom, when it is sold, to offer its share for sale over the counter at post offices, and to offer its subscribers vouchers on the bottom of their telephone bills allowing them to purchase British Telecom shares at a preferential price.

Mr. Butcher

The Government intend to seek to sell British Telecom shares widely at the time of flotation, but I am not yet in a position to announce details. The conduct of any share issue made after privatisation would be a matter for the company.
