HC Deb 22 February 1984 vol 54 c521W
Mr. Murphy

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what has been the outcome of his Department's consultations with Hertfordshire county council on a lorry ban zone to cover Wheathampstead.

Mrs. Chalker

The county council proposes to make an order banning heavy goods vehicles from a large area round St. Albans, including Wheathampstead, except for access. The order will not apply to motorways and there are no other trunk roads within the area. The council consulted my Department because of our responsibility for motorways and trunk roads and the need to erect signs on the approaches to the area. The Department has agreed to the provision of such signs on nearby motorways and trunk roads.
