Illegal Entrants (Detention)

Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people treated as illegal entrants in 1983 were granted temporary release (a) on detention and (b) subsequent to detention; and how many then absconded.

Mr. Waddington

The numbers are as follows:

1. (a) 236 of whom seven absconded;
2. (b) 39 of whom one absconded.
