HC Deb 22 February 1984 vol 54 c529W
Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in how many cases since 1 July 1983, of the total recommended for deportation with no custodial sentence, a court directed release under section 64 of the Criminal Justice Act 1982 (a) subject to conditions and (b) without conditions.

Mr. Waddington

Out of a total of 173 such cases, the courts directed release subject to conditions in 31 and without conditions in 87.

Mr. Soley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what are the present allowances to persons who are deported for subsistence on their journey home; and how the provision of allowances is administered.

Mr. Waddington

The allowances are £2.50 for deportation to the Republic of Ireland, £4 to Europe and £9 to other countries.

The provision of the allowance is administered through the police who may claim reimbursement from the Department where there has been a charge on public funds.
