asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many people were invited to the reception held in the British embassy in the United States of America in honour of the Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition; and how many refused.

Mr. Whitney

No reception was held at the British embassy. Her Majesty's ambassador gave a dinner in honour of the right hon. Member for Islwyn (Mr. Kinnock) on 9 February attended by 31 guests. A number of those on the original list were unable to accept.
