asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the pupil-teacher ratio in the Lothian region compared with the regional average for the rest of Scotland.

The pupil-teacher ratios at September 1983 for Lothian region, as provisionally calculated, were 19.9—primary—and 13.8—secondary. The comparable average pupil-teacher ratios for the rest of Scotland were 20.4—primary—and 14.0—secondary. Full informatin about pupils and teachers in education authority primary and secondary schools will be published in March.
