HC Deb 20 February 1984 vol 54 cc420-1W
Mrs. Rumbold

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what plans he has for maintaining Government investment in housing associations; and if he will make a statement.

Sir George Young

My right hon. Friend announced on 24 November that the Housing Corporation's approved development programme would be £687 million in 1984–85. A further announcement about the breakdown of this figure will be made shortly. Local authorities may also use money from their housing investment programme allocations to provide development finance for projects being undertaken by housing associations.

The Housing Corporation's programme compares with a gross allocation of £684.4 million in the current financial year and it will, with the funding by local authorities, allow for a continuing substantial level of investment by housing associations next year.
