HC Deb 20 February 1984 vol 54 c432W
Mr. Lester

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether a decision has now been reached on the future use of his Department's surplus facilities at central ordnance depot, Chilwell; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

Yes. We have agreed to a request from the United States Air Force to store equipment in part of the surplus facilities at COD Chilwell; the remainder of the surplus area will be disposed of in the normal way. The property at Chilwell will be made available to the USAF on the same basis as similar storage facilities in other parts of the country, and will be used to store normal airfield support vehicles, such as fuel bowsers and tractors. The base will be renamed RAF Chilwell. It is still too early to know the implications for civilian employment in the area.
