Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will not permit conifer afforestation of the slopes of the Creag Meagaidh site of special scientific interest in Glen Spean.

Mr. John McKay

The application for grant-aid for afforestation at Creag Meagaidh has been referred by the forestry commissioners to my right hon. Friend for advice. He is now considering the matter.

Mr. Allen McKay

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what account he is taking in considering proposals for conifer afforestation of the slopes of the Creag Meagaidh site of special scientific interest in Glen Spean of the effect of such afforestation on the hunting range of golden eagles.

Mr. John MacKay

In considering the application for grant aid for forestry at Creag Meagaidh, my right hon. Friend is taking into account all the relevant factors including representations made about the effects on the golden eagle population.
