HC Deb 16 February 1984 vol 54 cc285-6W
37. Mr. Yeo

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps are taken to scrutinise the performance of voluntary organisations which receive cash grants from the Voluntary Services Unit.

Mr. Waddington

The formal conditions governing all grants made by the voluntary services unit require the organisation in receipt of grant to provide a report at least annually on its performance in relation to the aims and objectives agreed with the unit when funding was agreed. These reports are supplemented by visits, meetings and other less formal contacts between the organisation and officials of the unit. The degree of scrutiny given by the unit to the performance of any particular organisation will take account of a number of factors, including the size and scope of the organisation concerned and the amount of the grant in relation to the organisation's other sources of income.
