Mr. Jim Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he is taking to ensure an adequate number of properly trained teachers of religious education in schools.
§ Mr. DunnIn setting targets for intakes to initial teacher training in the years 1983 to 1985, my right hon. Friend took account of the likely demand from schools in the next few years for newly-trained teachers of religious education. He has recently invited the Advisory Committee on the Supply and Education of Teachers to review the demand for new teachers and to advise on intakes to initial teacher training in 1986 and beyond.
