HC Deb 16 February 1984 vol 54 c315W
Mr. Greg Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many complaints were received by the Office of Fair Trading relating to motor vehicle servicing and repairs during each of the past three years for which figures are available; if the Director General is intending to take any action as a result thereof; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

I understand that although the Office of Fair Trading does not have figures of the complaints it receives, it compiles an analysis of consumer complaints recorded by local enforcement authorities and advice agencies. This analysis shows that the complaints recorded by those bodies relating to repairs and servicing of motor vehicles in the years to 30 September were: 1981 10,898; 1982 10,027; 1983 10,701. I am advised that the Director General is currently considering the responses to the discussion paper "Car Servicing and Repairs" which his office published in September 1983.
