HC Deb 16 February 1984 vol 54 cc299-300W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years have had their mobility allowance discontinued.

Mr. Chris Patten

The number of people in Northern Ireland who have had their mobility allowance discontinued (for reasons other than death) in each of the years 1979 to 1983 is as follows:

contingent on the capacity of health and social services boards to deliver services more effectively and efficiently and to re-invest the savings thus secured towards development in certain priority areas. Among the five priority areas identified in the plan are community services, which include primary health care, for mothers and children and the elderly. The further development of other community services will depend on the availability of resources over and above those needed for the priority areas.
