§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information regarding current compliance with the Sunday trading laws is being considered by his advisory group; and if he can yet estimate when it will be able to report.
§ Mr. MellorThe Department's evidence to the Committee of Inquiry into proposals to amend the Shops Acts contained information about proceedings taken under the Shops Act 1950 from 1979 until 1982. As I stated in my reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Southend, East (Mr. Taylor) on 9 February at c.697, my right hon. and learned Friend expects to receive the committee's report later in the year.
§ Mr. McCrindleasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from each chief constable as to the enforcement of the criminal law regarding Sunday trading; and if he will make a statement on the substance of the report, with particular reference to the enforcement practice and procedures revealed therein.
§ Mr. HurdThe duty of enforcing the provisions of the Shops Act 1950 is placed by the Act on local authorities.
