asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the prospects for the steel industry in Scotland, including Ravenscraig and Gartcosh.

The prospects for the steel industry in Scotland, as for that in the United Kingdom as a whole, depend in a combination of factors, including the efficiency of production, the level of home and export sales, and the effective implementation of the European Community's steel policy.
