HC Deb 15 February 1984 vol 54 cc218-9W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if his Department has undertaken any research into the treatment of pain and other complications following hysterectomy; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brooke

The Medical Research Council, which receives a grant-in-aid from the Department, has funded a programme of research into symptoms occurring in patients undergoing hysterectomy, both before and after surgery, and is at present supporting a number of projects on pain. One of these projects, on different methods of treatment of post-operative pain, although not primarily concerned with hysterectomy, is likely to be relevant to the management of pain following hysterectomy.
