HC Deb 14 February 1984 vol 54 c109W
Mr. Freud

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what are the criteria demanded of egg producers before labelling their produce free-range.

Mr. MacGregor

The regulations under which eggs in shell are marketed in the United Kingdom do not lay down criteria for methods of production. Produce labelled in this way would be subject to the requirements of the Food and Drugs Act 1955 and the Trade Descriptions Acts 1968 and 1972.
