§ Sir Bernard Braineasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, in the light of the United Nations resolution of 30 November 1983, Her Majesty's Government are prepared to accept an increased United Nations role in Antarctica, albeit acting within the parameters of the Antarctic treaty system.
§ Mr. WhitneyOur policy is to maintain and develop the Antarctic treaty system, which is open for accession by any member of the United Nations. We shall, however, co-operate fully with the United Nations Secretary-General in the study for which this resolution calls.
