§ Mr. Peter ReesIn 1983–84 the additional benefit payments and associated administrative costs resulting from a 100,000 increase in unemployment are estimated to be about £175 million and £10 million respectively. Estimates of associated changes in tax and national insurance revenues depend upon the assumed causes of the unemployment.
