HC Deb 13 February 1984 vol 54 c1W
Mr. Simon Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if his Department will study the fitting of sulphur dioxide removal plant to seven power stations in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The available technologies of flue gas desulphurisation are kept under review by the Central Electricity Generating Board. I have asked it to keep in close touch with its opposite number in the Federal Republic of Germany about its experience with such plant. I understand that Her Majesty's Industrial Air Pollution Inspectorate also keeps abreast of these developments.

I announced on 24 January that the Department and the energy industries are jointly studying advanced technologies for the reduction of sulphur emissions.
