HC Deb 13 February 1984 vol 54 c27W
Mr. Greenway

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what public funds have been made available to the Perivale skillcentre in real terms in each of the last 10 years; what funds will be spent there during the current financial year and in 1985; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Morrison

It is estimated that net expenditure at Perivale skillcentre, including allowances paid to trainees, will amount to £1.559 million in 1983–84. Figures for spending in earlier years are not readily available and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

One of the objectives of the Government's adult training strategy is to provide more people with training relevant to the needs of industry and so offer them better prospects of securing jobs. This is likely to mean a reduced requirement by the Manpower Services Commission for training of the kind provided in skillcentres, which will be seeking more training business directly with employers. Detailed plans for 1984–85 are not yet complete.
