Mr. John David Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what progress has been made towards free movement between Gibraltar and Spain.
§ Mr. WhitneySince the present Government took office in Spain in December 1982, the Spanish authorities have allowed certain categories of persons to cross the border on foot. These are British passport holders resident in Gibraltar, Gibraltarians living in the adjacent area of Spain — the Campo — Spanish citizens, and, more recently, accredited journalists. There are no obstacles to free movement on the Gibraltar side.

Mr. John David Taylorasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if the recent general election results in Gibraltar have resulted in any change in policy towards both the constitutional and economic position of Gibraltar; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WhitneyThe recent election, which resulted in the reappointment of Sir Joshua Hassan as Chief Minister, has not led to any change in our policy towards Gibraltar's economic or constitutional position. We remain in close touch with the Government of Gibraltar about all matters affecting the territory.
