§ Mr. George Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is, for the last 12 months available, the amount spent by his Department on advertisements in (a) newspapers, (b) television and (c) radio on the health hazards of smoking.
§ Mr. John Patten[pursuant to his reply,8 February 1984, c. 674]: Publicity on the health hazards of smoking is undertaken by the health Education Council which is mainly funded by the Government. In 1982–83, the latest year for which complete information is available, the amount spent by the Council on media advertising on the health hazards of smoking was:
- (a) newspapers £0.042 million
- (b) television £1.240 million
- (c) radio Nil
