§ Mr. Wallaceasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the members of his special advisory council on the designation of sites of special scientific interest, their occupations, and the dates and duration of their appointment.
§ Mr. WaldegraveAs the body statutorily responsible for advising the Government on nature conservation matters, the Nature Conservancy Council has a number of specialist committees, including the Advisory Committee for Scotland, which advises on sites of special scientific interest in Scotland. Its membership is as follows:
§ Mr. WaldegraveNo such licensing system is yet in force. But from 1 August 1984 firms removing or stripping asbestos insulation or coating will be subject to control by the Health and Safety Executive under Asbestos (Licensing) Regulations 1983. In addition, sites for the disposal of such waste already have to be licensed by local authorities under the Control of Pollution (Licensing of Waste Disposal) Regulations.
§ Mr. Fisherasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what weight of asbestos waste was removed from (a) Government buildings, (b) local authority buildings and (c) other buildings in each of the last three years.
§ Mr. WaldegraveFigures on the quantities of asbestos waste arising from different types of buildings are not held centrally. The information requested cannot be obtained without disproportionate cost.
