HC Deb 09 February 1984 vol 53 c729W
41. Mr. Bulmer

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether in the light of recent experience over Calke abbey, he will examine the case for allowing a maintenance fund to be set up on the death of a life tenant.

Mr. Moore

The reliefs from capital transfer tax when property becomes comprised in a maintenance fund can already apply to remove the charge to tax which arises on the death of a life tenant. If my hon. Friend is suggesting changes to the law of trusts rather than to tax law, that is a matter for my noble and learned Friend the Lord Chancellor.
