Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) how many staff are engaged in motorway schemes in each of the regional offices;

(2) how many staff are engaged in trunk road schemes in each of the regional offices.

[pursuant to her reply, 7 February 1984, c. 573]: Staff in our regional offices are not generally employed exclusively on either motorway or all-purpose trunk road scheme work. But the staff effort in regional offices engaged during 1983–84 on planning, designing and overseeing construction of motorway and trunk road schemes in the present programme can be estimated, in man-years as follows:
